Subject Leader Action Pack - A Quick Guide
At The Klein Academy we are focusing on five key statements which best summarise the purpose of computing education in our schools.
1. Computing teaches pupils how to keep safe online, and where to go for help and support. (Internet Safety).
2. Computing teaches pupils how to flourish in a connected world, developing their sensitivity to others online, treating them with respect, and showing respect for their privacy (Communication).
3. Critical thinking and analytical skills are developed through computing (Coding).
4. Computing develops pupils’ skills in using technology to create, organise, store, manipulate and retrieve digital content (Data).
5. Computing nurtures pupils’ collaboration skills, as they work together and support one another in their learning (Projects).
For each section we will display progressive samples of evidence from across our schools with appropriate captions and annotations.
2. The Progression Folder
Knowledge Building for Computing
3. The Policy Document Folder
“How Does Our Learning Grow in Computing?”
This outlines fundamental information about the subject but must be
personalised to match your own school’s subject delivery,
assessment and monitoring systems.
The appendices show Long
Term Plans and coverage for computing in KS1 (Pathfinders), LKS2
(Adventurers) and UKS2 (Navigators). Information should be
added about how computing is taught in Early Years and through
which themes.
4. The Action Plan Template
This provides a format for you to use to outline action points for
computing and document progress against those.
You may wish to add other information to the Policy Document.
This is up to individual schools to decide upon, but consistency is
key.
