Weekly Plans for Computer Class

Computer Class Mid-Range Plan 

Computer Classes at The Klein Academy for ICT aim to equip students with essential digital literacy skills, fostering responsible internet usage, coding proficiency, and creative expression through the use of various applications and online platforms.

TERM 1: September to December 2023 

Introductions & Responsibilities: Students will be introduced to Mrs. Klein & learn about her expectations in computer class. Students will all be allocated a seat and learn about the various roles in computer class such as: Mini Teachers, Tidying-Up Monitors, The Wiggle Test & Dojo Boss.  Mrs. Klein places a strong emphasis on students working together collaboratively and learning the importance of becoming responsible digital citizens.

Logging-On & Off: Students will learn how to log onto their accounts and the importance of safeguarding their credentials. Mrs. Klein will report any issues with student accounts to the Student Helpdesk. 

Navigating Desktop: Students will take a guided tour of the desktop interface to ensure that they are familiar with accessing necessary applications and files. Key Questions: How do I get online? How do I access downloads? How do I log-on/log-off from my computer? 

Bookmarking & Web Browsers:  Students will learn how to bookmark essential resources for easy access focusing on The Klein Academy for future reference. They will learn about the different types of web-browsers available and the pros/cons of each.

My Laptop User Agreement: Understanding and adhering to the user agreement to promote responsible and safe computer usage. 

Seesaw: Introduction and exploration of Seesaw features, emphasizing its role as a platform for student engagement and learning. 

Creating Secure Passwords: Students to discuss best practices for creating strong and secure passwords to protect their accounts. UKS2 students will have an opportunity to create their own passwords.

Internet Safety: A series of lessons focusing on internet safety and effective search strategies, utilizing resources from The Klein Academy's Internet Safety pages.

Typing.com Course: Introduction to this self-paced keyboarding course which fosters essential typing skills. 

CCMI Competition Support: Invitation for UKS2 students to create a digital entry for the CCMI Competition, offering a chance to win a trip to Little Cayman. 

PASS Surveys & CAT Tests: Preparation and completion of PASS Surveys Year 1 to 6 and CAT Tests Years 4 & 6 only. 

TERM 2: January to March 2024 

Office 365: This unit includes navigating the "waffle" and creating a customised profile picture.

Outlook: Introduce or review how to use Outlook to send emails, attachments and web-links. Show students how to report any concerns and how to keep their accounts organised.

Microsoft Teams:

Animations: Students will learn how to create animated GIFS to send in email greetings to their teachers and classmates.  

Code: Participation in Hour of Code activities, exploring self-paced coding courses to foster problem-solving and computational thinking skills. 

TERM 3 – April to June 2024 

Block Coding with Scratch: Introduction to Scratch for block coding basics, covering animations, music creation, and interactive projects. 

Data: Students will learn how to use Excel to track their progress playing multiplication games. They will learn how to use Excel as a calculator and how to add design features to their spreadsheets. They will also learn how to create simple graphs and charts to visualise their findings, enhancing their understanding of data representation and interpretation. 

Web Design Basics: Exploration of web design principles including text formatting, graphic insertion, and website construction using accessible tools.
