Keeping Safe Online

Dear Students,

Today I wanted to talk to you about staying safe online and how to be a good digital citizen. I thought I'd started by sharing with you some of my experiences during the lock-down:

1. I sometimes received E-mails and school-work from students very late at night. It is so important to switch off your devices and take a break from them - especially at night when it is time to sleep.

2. As some of you know there is a place for you to post messages for your teachers on Microsoft Teams. It is very important that you are thoughtful about any messages that you leave for your teacher and/or your classmates. Remember it is a shared space and that EVERYONE in your class can read your messages.

3. PLEASE DO NOT POST PERSONAL PHOTOS OF YOURSELF ONLINE. This is super important and a topic that we have often talked about in computer class. It only takes one click for your personal photos to be shared with hundreds and indeed thousands of people.

Today I would like you to read the story of Little Miss Chrome and have a chat with your classmates about any changes that you need to make to help keep yourself safe online.

You will then need to log-on to your Office 365 account and create your own online safety story using Powerpoint. Once you have completed the work I will show you how you can submit your finished work via assignments.

P.S. If your parents are not sure about the safety of an app or a website I would strongly recommend running a search on Common Sense Media.
