Internet Safety: Friend Requests

🎯 Aim

To understand how to stay safe when receiving or sending friend requests online.

To learn how to recognise safe and unsafe online behaviour.

To explore strategies for dealing with unwanted or unsafe friend requests.

💡 Be Inspired

Charlotte and Lost Princess both accept friend requests from people they don't know. What would you do? Remember not everyone online is who they say they are.

🔎 Check It Out

Some people accept every friend request they get online — but this can be dangerous.

Friends online should be people you know in real life, like classmates, family, or trusted adults.

If you don’t recognise the name, picture, or message, it’s safest to ignore or delete the request.

Never share personal details (like your school, address, or phone number) with someone you don’t know offline.

Create a poster with your own Rules for Friend Requests. Think about: Who is safe to add? What should you do if you feel unsure? How can you say “no” politely but firmly?

Role-play with a partner: one of you sends a suspicious friend request, the other has to decide how to respond. Talk through what made it safe or unsafe.
