Data 4.1 Piggy Crime Database

Lesson 4.1 Piggy Crime Database

Aim: To sort and filter information. To discuss how we sort information.

Be Inspired: Watch the video below for a really helpful introduction to information systems.

Check It Out:
Have a look at these different pigs. Can you explain how the pigs are different from each other? How could we sort the pigs?

Do Your Best:
1. One of these pigs stole Cinderella's slipper! Can you figure out which one? The police report said that the pig had a sad face, a blue star and a purple snout.

2. The naughty pig that ate the porridge belonging to Baby Bear had a red star, a happy face and a pink snout.

3. The poor pig that was kidnapped and held to ransom by the wolf had a purple snout, a yellow star and a sad face.

4. The homeless pig who had his house blown down by the big, bad wolf had a blue star, a pink snout and a sad face.

Another way of finding the information is to sort through the records using a spreadsheet. See if you can answer the questions below by sorting through the data recorded in Excel.

Extension Task: Can you add another pig to the database? Can you create your own mystery based on the piggy database?
