This unit extends the children’s previous work with programmable toys. Here, they further explore programmable toys and begin to plan and predict the behaviour of simple algorithms and programs.

Dear Students,

Today you are going to plan an algorithm (a set of instructions) to see if you can make your robot write an alphabet letter. First of all do you know all your alphabet letters?

What letter are you going to write? You will need to decide on the step size and the turn size. You can also decide on the trail colour. Remember to make your robot move you must click on it.

Mrs. Klein had a go at making the letter "K". She had to set the turn size to "eighth". She also switched to the white trail colour for when she didn't want her ink to be seen. If you have a Botley robot you could also have a go at coding your robot to write a letter of the alphabet.

Check out this Robot Writer called NAO who has been programmed to help teach children how to write.
