2.1 Animations & Flip Books

Lesson 2.1: Animations & Flip Books

Aim:
Today we are going to find out what an animation is. We will learn how to make a flip book and have a go at creating a simple digital animation using the Brush Ninja website.

Be Inspired!
An animation is a series of images that when displayed quickly create an optical illusion of movement. This is called:

PERSISTENCE OF VISION

One way of making an animation is to use sticky notes. Watch the video below to see how you can make a flip book.

This flip book was made last year by a student in Year 3:

Today we are going to create a digital version of a flip book using the Brush Ninja website.

When we have finished we can download the finished product as a GIF (Graphic Interchange Format).

Do:
A stickman is a great way of getting started. Ask Mrs. Klein about the Onion Skinning tool.

Onion skinning, in 2D computer graphics, is a technique used in creating animated cartoons and editing movies to see several frames at once. This way, the animator or editor can make decisions on how to create or change an image based on the previous image in the sequence.

Extension:
When you have finished see if you can e-mail your GIF to Mrs. Klein as an attachment using your Office 365 accounts.

Fun:
Once you have finished have a go at making a paper flip book. Check out the video below for more ideas:
