4.5 My Digital Footprint

Lesson 2.6: My Digital Footprint

Aim:
Today we are going to learn about digital permanence and talk about how hard it is to
remove something from the Internet once you put it out there.

Be Informed!
Maya takes a really embarrassing photo of Jack and is about to post it online for everyone to see. Before you watch the video discuss why she should take care before she shares.

(Click here if you are unable to view the video at school).

Chat:
Last week we did an experiment where Mrs. Klein shared an embarrassing photo with one student in the class. The photo was then emailed on to other students in the classroom and it wasn't long before most students had seen it! This week Mrs. Klein wants to get the photo back. Do you think it is possible for her to take the photo down from where it was shared and be rid of it forever?

Do:
A digital footprint is your online identity. It is made up of all the things you do online. It is important to be aware of it because anything posted online is permanent and stays there forever regardless of being deleted. Today I would like you to log-in to your Seesaw accounts and complete the Digital Footprint tasks that have been set for you.

Extension:
Ready for an extra challenge? Can you find out what the word PERMANENT means? Write down a definition as well as a clear sentence that helps demonstrate its meaning and email this to Mrs. Klein.
